1Every high priest taken from among men is appointed in behalf of men in things relating to God. He may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2He is able to exercise compassion towards the ignorant and those going astray, since he is also subject to weakness. 3That is why he must offer sacrifices, for his own and for the people’s sins. 4No one takes this honor upon himself. He is called by God, even as Aaron was. 5Also Christ did not glorify himself to be made a high priest. It was God who said to him: »You are my Son; I today have become your father.« 6As he said in another place:« You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.« 7In the days of his life on earth, when he Christ offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears to the one who was able to save him out of death, and was heard because of his godly reverence. (Galatians 1:1) (Psalm 69:13) 8Although he was a Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered. 9Being made perfect, he became the source causechannelconduitpathwayfacilitator of eternal salvation to all who obey him. (Psalm 3:8) 10He was called by God to be a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek. 11We have many things to say about him and it is hard to explain it to you, for you are dull of hearing slow to learn. 12At this time you should be teachers. But you need someone to teach you again from the beginning the elementary truths from the Word of God. You need milk, not solid food. 13Everyone who drinks milk is unacquainted with the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14But solid food belongs to mature people. It belongs to those who by reason of use have their senses trained to know the difference between good and evil.
