1He saw rich men putting their gifts into the treasury. 2Then he saw a poor widow putting in two small coins. 3»I tell you a truth,« he said: »This poor widow gave more than all of them. 4»They all gave out of their surplus but she gave out of her poverty. She gave all that she had for living expenses.« 5Some spoke of how wonderful the temple was. How it was adorned with beautiful stones and offerings, Jesus replied: 6»Concerning these things you see, the days will come, in which there shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.« 7They asked him: »Teacher, when would these things take place? What will be the sign when these things are about to come to pass?« 8He said: »Take heed that you are not led astray. Many will come in my name, saying, I am he but the time is not at hand. Do not follow them. 9»When you hear of wars and disturbances do not be terrified. These things must occur first. The end is not immediate.« 10Then he said: »Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11»There will be great earthquakes. There will be famines and pestilences in various places. There shall be terrors and great signs from heaven. 12»Even before all these things, they will capture you, and persecute you. You will be delivered to synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and governors for my names sake. 13»It will give you an opportunity to witness. 14»Do not think about what you will say before it happens. 15»I will give you ability to talk and words of wisdom, which your adversaries shall not be able to resist or refute. 16»Parent, brothers and sisters and friends will turn you over and cause you to be put to death. 17»Men will hate you because of my name. 18»Yet not a hair of your head will perish. 19»You will gain your lives because of your endurance. 20»When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies you will know that desolation is near. 21»Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let those who are in the midst of her leave. And let no one from the country enter. 22»These are days of vengeance! All things written will be fulfilled. 23»Woe to those who are pregnant and those who nurse a child in those days! There will be great distress upon the land, and wrath to this people. 24»They will be killed by the edge of the sword. Some will be led captive into all the nations. The people of the nations will tread down Jerusalem until the time of the Nations is fulfilled. 25»There will be signs in sun and moon and stars. The earth will experience distress of nations in disarray for the roaring of the sea and the waves. 26»Men will faint out of fear for expectation of the things coming on the world. The powers of the heavens shall be shaken. 27»Then they will see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28»When these things begin to happen lift up your heads because your redemption draws near.« 29He told them an illustration: »Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. 30»When they produce leaves you know that summer is near. 31»Even so, when you see these things coming to pass, know that the kingdom of God is near! 32»Truly I say to you, this generation shall not pass away, till all things are accomplished. 33»Heaven and earth will pass away: but my words will not pass away. 34»Be awake so your hearts are not weighed down. Do not allow the weight of worldly involvement, drunkenness, and cares of this life be a snare when that day suddenly comes. 35»It will come as a surprise to all who dwell on the face of the earth. 36»Be on the watch all the time. Pray for the strength to escape all these things in order to stand before the Son of man.« 37He taught in the temple every day and he stayed on the Mount of Olives at night. 38The people came early in the morning to hear him in the temple.
