Transgressors eat violence. 3He who keeps his mouth watches what he says keeps his life. He who opens wide his lips speaks thoughtlessly will have destruction. 4The lazy man desires and has nothing. The diligent man will be made rich. 5A righteous man hates lying. A wicked man is loathsome and shameful. 6Righteousness keeps the upright in the way. Wickedness subverts the sinner. 7There is one who claims to be rich, yet has nothing. There is one who claims to be poor, yet has great riches. 8The ransom of a man's life is his riches. The poor in spirit does not listen to rebuke. 9The light of the righteous rejoices but the lamp of the wicked will be put out. 10Pride brings contention, but wisdom is with the well advised. 11Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished. He who gathers by labor will increase. 12Expectation deferred makes the heart sick. When the desire comes, it is a tree of life. 13The one who despises the word will experience bad consequences be destroyed. He who respects the commandment will be rewarded. 14The law of the wise is a fountain of life to depart from the snares of death. 15Good understanding gives favor. The way of transgressors is hard. 16Every prudent man acts with knowledge. A fool displays his folly. 17A wicked messenger falls into adversity. A faithful ambassador brings healing. 18Poverty and shame come to all who reject discipline. He who accepts reproof will be honored. 19Desire accomplished is sweetness to life. It is an abomination to fools to depart from evil. 20The one who walks with wise men will be wise. A companion of fools will be destroyed. 21Adversity pursues sinners. The righteous will be repaid with goodness. 22A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children. The wealth of the sinner is preserved for the righteous. 23Abundant foods is in the fallow ground of the poor. There is waste because of a lack of justice. 24He who spares the rod authority hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines instructs him promptly. 25The righteous eats to satisfaction. The belly of the wicked is in need.
