1Better a poor man who walks with integrity than a fool whose lips are perverse. 2It is not good to be a person without knowledge. He who hurries often misses the way. 3Man ruins his life by his own foolishness. His heart chafes with anger against Jehovah. 4Wealth makes many friends but poverty drives them away. 5A false witness will not go unpunished. The liar will not escape. 6Many ask favors of the prince. Every man is a friend of a person who gives gifts. 7The brothers of the poor hate him. His friends leave him. He pursues them with words but they do not listen! 8He who acquires wisdom loves life. He who guards understanding finds good. 9A false witness will not go unpunished and the liar will perish. 10Delight is not the custom of a fool much less for a servant to rule over princes. 11The discretion of a man defers anger. It is his glory to overlook a transgression. 12The king's anger is like the roaring of a lion but his favor is like dew upon the grass. 13A foolish son is a disgrace to his father. A contentious wife is like drips from a leaky roof. 14Real estate and riches are the inheritance of fathers. A prudent wisesensible wife is from Jehovah. 15Laziness propels one into a deep sleep. An idle person will suffer hunger. 16He who obeys the commandment saves his life. But he who is careless of his ways will die. 17When you help the poor needylowlydepressed you lend to Jehovah. He will pay you back. 18Correct your son while there is hope. Do not contribute to his death. 19A man of great anger will suffer punishment. Rescue him once and then do it again. 20Listen to counsel and accept instruction discipline, that you may be wise in the future. 21Many intentions are in mens hearts. Only counsel from Jehovah will stand. 22Kindness is desired in a man. A poor man is better than a liar. 23Respect for Jehovah leads to life. He who has it will be satisfied. He will not be visited by evil. 24A lazy man hides his hand in the dish and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again. 25Strike a scoffer and the simple will be wary. Reprove someone who has understanding, and he will discern knowledge. 26He who assaults his father and chases away his mother is a shameful and disgraceful son. 27Stop listening to instruction disciplinecorrection, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge. 28An ungodly witness scorns judgment. The mouth of the wicked devours evil. 29Penalties are prepared for mockers, and beatings for the back of fools.
