1O Jehovah, I have come to you for protection; never let me be defeated! 2You are righteous, help me and rescue me. Listen to me and save me! 3You are my secure shelter and a strong fortress to protect me. You are my refuge and defense. 4My God, rescue me from wicked people, from the power of cruel and evil people. 5Lord Jehovah, I put my hope in you. I have trusted in you since I was young. 6I have relied on you all my life. You have protected me since the day I was born. I will always praise you. 7My life has been an example to many, because you have been my strong defender. 8All day long I praise you and proclaim your glory. 9Do not reject me when I am old or abandon me when I lose my strength. 10My enemies talk about me. They watch me as they plot to take my life. 11They say: »God has abandoned him. Pursue him and grab him because there is no one to rescue him.« 12O God, do not be so distant from me. O my God, come quickly to help me. 13Let those who accuse me come to a shameful end. Let those who want my downfall be covered with disgrace and humiliation. 14But I will always have hope. I will praise you more and more. 15All day long my mouth will tell of your righteousness and of your salvation. I do not know the number. 16I will come with the mighty deeds of Jehovah God. I will make mention of your righteousness, yours alone. 17O God, You taught me from my youth, and I still declare your wondrous deeds. 18And even when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare your strength to this generation, your power to all who are to come. 19Your righteousness also, God, reaches to the heavens. You have done great things. God, who is like you? 20You who have shown us many and bitter troubles, you will let me live. You will bring us up again from the depths of the earth. 21Increase my honor and comfort me again. 22I will also praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, my God. I sing praises to you with the stringed instrument, Holy One of Israel. 23My lips will shout for joy! You have redeemed me and I sing praises to you! 24My tongue will also talk about your righteousness all day long. They who want to harm me are disappointed and confounded.
