1Now it came to pass in the days of Herod, King of Judea, in the highpriesthood of Caiaphas, there came a certain man named John baptizing a baptism of repentance 2who was known as being from the kindred of Aaron the priest, son of Zacharias and Elizabeth. 3And John had a garment of camel's hair, and a leather belt about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey. 4Then Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him; 5and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. 6And he said, I indeed baptize you{+} in water to repentance: but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to bear: he will baptize you{+} in the Holy Spirit and [in] fire: 7whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor; and he will gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire. 8Then Jesus comes from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized of him. 9And Jesus when he was baptized, went up immediately from the water: and look, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him; 10and look, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
