1At that season Jesus went on the Sabbath day through the grainfields; and his disciples were hungry and began to pluck ears and to eat. 2But the Pharisees, when they saw it, said to him, Look, your disciples do that which it is not lawful to do on the Sabbath. 3But he said to them, Have you{+} not read what David did, when he was hungry, and those who were with him; 4how he entered into the house of God, and they ate the showbread, which it was not lawful for him to eat, neither for those who were with him, but only for the priests? 5And he said to them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath: 6so that the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath. 7And he departed from there, and went into their synagogue: 8and look, a man having a withered hand. And they watched him to see if he would heal on the Sabbath day; so that they might accuse him. 9And he said to them, Is it lawful on the Sabbath day to do good, or to do harm? To save a life, or to kill? 10But they held their peace. 11Then he says to the man, Stretch forth your hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, as the other. 12But the Pharisees went out, and took counsel against him, how they might destroy him. 13And Jesus withdrew from there: and great multitudes from Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judea and [from] beyond the Jordan followed him. 14And the report of him went forth into all Syria: and they brought to him all who were sick, held with diverse diseases and torments, and possessed with demons, and epileptic, and palsied; and he healed them.
