1Maschil of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing of the loving-kindness of Yahweh forever: With my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations. 2For I have said, Mercy will be built up forever; Your faithfulness you will establish in the very heavens. 3I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn to David my slave: 4Your seed I will establish forever, And build up your throne to all generations. Selah. 5And the heavens will praise your wonders, O Yahweh; Your faithfulness also in the assembly of the holy ones. 6For who in the skies can be compared to Yahweh? Who among the sons of the mighty is like Yahweh, 7A God very terrible in the council of the holy ones, And to be awed above all those who are round about him? 8O Yahweh God of hosts, Who is a mighty one, like you, O Yah? And your faithfulness is round about you. 9You rule the pride of the sea: When its waves arise, you still them. 10You have broken Rahab in pieces, as one who is slain; You have scattered your enemies with the arm of your strength. 11The heavens are yours, the earth also is yours: The world and the fullness of it, you have founded them. 12The north and the south, you have created them: Tabor and Hermon rejoice in your name. 13You have a mighty arm; Strong is your hand, and high is your right hand. 14Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne: Loving-kindness and truth go before your face. 15Blessed is the people who know the joyful sound: They walk, O Yahweh, in the light of your countenance. 16In your name they rejoice all the day; And in your righteousness they stand. 17For you are the glory of their strength; And in your favor our horn will be exalted. 18For our shield belongs to Yahweh; And our king to the Holy One of Israel. 19Then you spoke in vision to your saints, And said, I have laid help on one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people. 20I have found David my slave; With my holy oil I have anointed him: 21With whom my hand will be established; My arm also will strengthen him. 22The enemy will not exact from him, Nor the son of wickedness afflict him. 23And I will beat down his adversaries before him, And strike those who hate him. 24But my faithfulness and my loving-kindness will be with him; And in my name will his horn be exalted. 25I will set his hand also on the sea, And his right hand on the rivers. 26He will cry to me, You are my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation. 27I also will make him [my] firstborn, The highest of the kings of the earth. 28My loving-kindness I will keep for him forevermore; And my covenant will stand fast with him. 29His seed also I will make to endure forever, And his throne as the days of heaven. 30If his sons forsake my law, And don't walk in my ordinances; 31If they break my statutes, And don't keep my commandments; 32Then I will visit their transgression with the rod, And their iniquity with stripes. 33But my loving-kindness I will not completely take from him, Nor allow my faithfulness to fail. 34My covenant I will not break, Nor alter the thing that has gone out of my lips. 35Once I have sworn by my holiness: I will not lie to David: 36His seed will endure forever, And his throne as the sun before me. 37It will be established forever as the moon, And [as] the faithful witness in the sky. Selah. 38But you have cast off and rejected, You have been angry with your anointed. 39You have abhorred the covenant of your slave: You have profaned his crown [by casting it] to the ground. 40You have broken down all his hedges; You have brought his strongholds to ruin. 41All who pass by the way rob him: He has become a reproach to his neighbors. 42You have exalted the right hand of his adversaries; You have made all his enemies to rejoice. 43Yes, you turn back the edge of his sword, And have not made him to stand in the battle. 44You have made his brightness to cease, And cast his throne down to the ground. 45The days of his youth you have shortened: You have covered him with shame. Selah. 46How long, O Yahweh? Will you hide yourself forever? [How long] will your wrath burn like fire? 47Remember me: How short is my lifetime? For what vanity have you created all the sons of man? 48What [prominent] man is he who will live and not see death, That will deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah. 49Lord, where are your former loving-kindnesses, Which you swore to David in your faithfulness? 50Remember, Lord, the reproach of your slaves, That I bear in my bosom from all the numerous peoples, 51With which your enemies have reproached, O Yahweh, With which they have reproached the footsteps of your anointed. 52Blessed be Yahweh forevermore. Amen, and Amen.
