1Then come together to him the Pharisees and certain of the scribes, who came from Jerusalem. 2And they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is, unwashen hands. 3Now the Pharisees and all the Jews, except they wash their hands to the wrist, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders. 4And coming from the market, unless they wash, they eat not: and many other things there are which they have received to hold, the washings of cups and pots and brasen vessels and couches. 5Then the Pharisees ask him, Why walk not thy disciples, according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with defiled hands? 6He answering said to them, Well hath Isaiah prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. 7But in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. 8For leaving the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. 9And he said to them, Full well ye abolish the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. 10For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother, and, Whoso revileth father or mother, he shall surely die. 11But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest have been profited by me: he shall be free. 12And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother; 13Abrogating the word of God by your traditions which ye have delivered: and many such like things ye do. 14And calling all the multitude, he said to them, Hearken to me every one of you and consider. 15There is nothing entering into a man from without, which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, these are they that defile the man. 16If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. 17And when he was come from the multitude into the house, his disciples asked him concerning the parable. 18And he saith to them, Are even ye so without understanding? Do ye not perceive, That whatsoever entereth into a man from without, cannot defile him, 19Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth into the vault, purging all meats. 20And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. 21For from within, out of the heart of man proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, envy, evil speaking, pride, foolishness. 23All these evils come from within, and defile the man. 24And he arose and went thence into the borders of Tyre and Sidon. And entring into an house, he would have had no man know it; but he could not be hid. 25For a woman whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, 26having heard of him, came and fell at his feet, (The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation) and besought him to cast the devil out of her daughter. 27But Jesus said to her, Let the children first be satisfied; for it is not right to take the childrens bread and cast it to the dogs. 28She answered and said to him, True, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs. 29And he said to her, For this saying, go: the devil is gone out of thy daughter. 30And going to her house, she found the devil gone out and her daughter lying on the bed. 31And departing again from the borders of Tyre and Sidon, he came to the sea of Galilee, thro' the midst of the country of Decapolis. 32And they bring to him one that was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and beseech him to put his hand upon him. 33And taking him aside from the multitude, he put his fingers into his ears, and spitting, touched his tongue. 34And looking up to heaven, he groaned and saith to him, Ephphatha, that is, be opened. 35And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain. 36And he charged them to tell no man; but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it, 37And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well; he maketh both the deaf to hear and the dumb to speak.
